Our mascot points the way to the
Southern Adirondack Rock Fest Campsite.
We've uploaded posters for you to copy, print, and distribute. Please do! Lovely 11 x 14 PDF, equally lovely JPEG Image, and a smaller, peculiar PDF or its equivalent JPEG.
An Informal Get-Together introducing folks to the rock climbing of the Southern Adirondacks.
This year, SAdkRF will be on Crane Mountain. Campsites are available nearby - but you must register in advance.

As usual, our schedule is pretty loose. The crags & routes on Crane Mountain can be difficult to find, so we're going to offer "escort" service to several crags: the Prows and Firecamp on the summit ridge, the Measles Wall, the Viewpoint, and the Black Arches Wall. We will have top-ropes set up on one or two routes at each crag, so folks can carry a minimum of gear if desired.
That said, we do have an itinerary this year:
We're going to help folks get to the cliffs, get oriented, make suggestions, and maybe set up a Top-Rope or two for everyone.
We're also arranging a DEC group camping permit during SAdkRF. We will gather here to discuss the local climbing scene and any other important information, and maybe just maybe award a door prize or two.
Get off the New York State NORTHWAY I-87 at exit 25 and take Route 8 west. You will drive past several small towns: Chestertown, Loon Lake, Riparius, & Wevertown. You will cross Route 28 at a traffic light; 1.7 miles past this light, turn left onto South Johnsburg Road. If you get to the Johnsburg Market, you missed your turn.
Follow South Johnsburg Road about 7 miles and turn right onto Garnet Lake Road.
Take Garnet Lake Road for 1.3 miles and turn right onto Sky High Road, at the bottom of a hollow. The turn is marked by a row of mailboxes and a small bridge. Note: Sky High Road changes spelling every time the sign is replaced!
Head up Sky High Road; at the top of the hill, continue driving along the hiking trail road to its end at the trailhead parking lot. This is where we will meet for registration and most organized events.
SAdkRF sign.
This is a bit trickier; definitely look a map over carefully beforehand. Take the I-90 NYS Thruway east to Route 365. Follow 365 east: watch carefully as it takes several odd turns in its effort to confuse and lose you. At its end, turn left on Route 8 and drive through lots of small towns to Speculator. At the T-intersection, turn right (Route 8 joins with Route 30 here) and continue out of town, first climbing a long hill, then descending the other side. Turn left to stay on Route 8 as the two highways diverge (Route 30 continues south, don't miss this turn). Drive through Bakers Mills into Johnsburg; about ¼ mile past the Johnsburg Post Office, turn right onto South Johnsburg Road. Follow the directions above from there.
Put "SAdkRF" as the subject.
We will keep track of the bouncing forecast from Labor Day onward, using the National Weather Service Forecast for Johnsburg, NY, starting Labor Day.
Note that the last one for each time is the most current one. I usually check in the evening.
Don't forget to look for our bear Rocky!
